Approach > Departmental "Blinders"
Many staff view their personal work product only in a vertical fashion - they know what their seniors and juniors do, but do not truly understand that they are part of an overall organizational process that culminates in a product or service sold. They may not understand what the rest of the departments do (horizontal understanding), or they do not view their work as a "sub-product," a piece of the puzzle, which contributes to the overall product or service of the organization. Staff may also not fully understand how another department's goals or current programs affect them. This is most commonly known as the "disconnect."
